Qualitative Research:

Interviews and Focus Groups

The goals of this LVCHA component were to use qualitative data to understand, interpret, and compare and contrast with quantitative information to gain insight on community health needs and assets. We engaged in and completed 12 interviews and 10 focus groups in total. With both qualitative methods, we aimed to cover a wide range of health topics in Little Village.

Community members identified residents that participated in the interviews and focus groups. This map represents where community members participated:

Qualitative Think Tank

Once the interviews and focus groups were completed, we engaged in participatory qualitative data analysis with a Think Tank group. The Qualitative Think Tank is comprised of a balance of students, academic faculty, and community members. Members make decisions on data cleaning, analysis, and the identification and prioritization of research questions. Members also advise on how to disseminate findings. The Think Tank met regularly, both in the community and at the University, to engage in this participatory process of analysis and improve the integrity of the research and relevance to community members.
